What the heck is a Chickhopper??

A chickhopper, better known as a chipmunk, is a burrowing ground squirrel of western America and Asia.

Chickhopper is a word that was invented by Emily Helck, the founder of Chickhopper Studios, as a child. When Emily was small, she enjoyed watching the little chipmunks who lived outside her great-grandparents’ house. She felt that the name chipmunk did not fully capture their essence; thus, she renamed them chickhoppers. It is with that same spirit of invention and creativity that Chickhopper Studio was founded.

Why should I attend class with my child?

There are many reasons why we ask for parent attendance during our classes. We ask that you come so that you may encourage and build your child’s confidence in art making. We ask that you be a supportive observer, and allow your child to freely explore the materials. We also hope that you will be learning with your child, so that you can recreate the art experiences at home.

What should I bring to class?

All art making materials will be provided, with the exception of smocks. Parent and child should wear comfortable clothes that can get messy. You may bring a smock from home if you wish (old, large t-shirts work well). We also ask that no food or drink be brought into the studio, and that cell phones are put away during class.
